The Client Intake volunteer position registers and provides information and resources to clients who are accessing services at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center. The Client Intake volunteer greets and interviews clients requesting assistance to determine the eligibility based on program guidelines and restrictions. The Client Intake volunteer assists clients in completing applications for assistance; photocopies their social security card or picture identification card, and assures that services to be received by the client are within appropriate parameters as defined by the policies and procedures established by Pueblo Cooperative Care Center.

The Client Interviewer volunteer position meets with individual clients after they are registered through Client Intake. The Client Interviewer meets with the client on a one-to-one basis and interviews them to obtain information prior to their receipt of services. The Client Interviewer identifies the current needs of the client and is required to maintain appropriate documentation from the interview including inputting data into the client database. The Client Interviewer will advise clients of all available services they are eligible for at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center and will provide them with knowledge of additional community resources to assist them as warranted. The Client Interviewer will update information about the client’s current residential status, household size and household members, income (and other financial information) and services received at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center.
The Olive’s Closet clothing room volunteer position greets and registers clients in the clothing room and helps to provide information and resources available to them while they are accessing services at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center. Every day clients search for new and gently used clothing, shoes and other items, and the clothing room, known as “Olive’s Closet” utilizes volunteers to assist clients in meeting their needs. Many of our clients arrive with just the clothes on their back and this position requires compassion and endurance. The Clothing Sorter volunteer assists in sorting through donated clothing, shoes and other items to determine what will be kept and distributed to clients in Olive’s Closet, and what is to be recycled. The Clothing Sorter assures that all items to be received by clients are clean, neat in appearance and appropriate as defined by the policies and procedures established by Pueblo Cooperative Care Center.

The Food Sorter volunteer position helps our community move one step beyond hunger every minute they help sort food products received at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center in preparation for their distribution to clients who are accessing services. The Food Pantry Sacker volunteer position puts food in paper sacks (just like the grocery store) and then marks each sack with the date it was packaged and the size of food sack it represents (small, large, etc.). Every sack must be filled with specific items from identified food groups, and the quantity depends on the size of the sack being filled. This is done in advance of distributions to clients who are accessing services at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center.

The Food Pantry Server volunteer is responsible for distributing food and other resources to clients accessing services at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center. The Food Pantry Server collects information from the client and verifies the resources to be received by the client. The Food Pantry Server gathers the basic food sack(s) and other items including hygiene items, dental care items, toilet paper, etc. according to client needs and eligibility. The Food Pantry Server verifies that items in the basic food sacks are accurate and adds additional items to the sacks as available. These may include but are not limited to breads, pastries, dairy products, meats, dry goods, canned goods, beverages and other items. As warranted for senior citizen, individuals with disabilities or other individuals in distress, the Food Pantry Server may assist the client in transporting items to the client vehicle.

The Warehouse Support volunteer works in the warehouse at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center, assisting the warehouse supervisor as this is the receiving site for facility supplies and donations. The Warehouse Support volunteer is responsible in helping to keep the warehouse clean, neat and organized as instructed by the warehouse supervisor. The Warehouse Support volunteer accepts and documents donations, issues donor receipts, logs donations as received, and prepares items for distribution in their appropriate areas.

The Driver and Warehouse Support volunteer works in the community and in the warehouse at Pueblo Cooperative Care Center. As a Driver, responsibilities include delivery and pick-up, reporting, operations, safety and other duties as assigned. As Warehouse Support, this position is to assist the warehouse supervisor as needed. The Driver and Warehouse Support volunteer is responsible to keep vehicles and the warehouse clean, neat and organized; and is to document activities, issue donor receipts, log activities as required and prepares items for distribution to their appropriate areas within Pueblo Cooperative Care Center.

The Data Entry and Reporting volunteer must have a comprehensive knowledge of computers including database management. The Data Entry and Reporting volunteer must be proficient at data entry with specialized programs and will assist with Client Intake as needed. In the role of Data Entry and Reporting, the individual enters data from client documents into the Pueblo Cooperative Care Center computer system for processing and management. The position requires the ability to manage a large amount of information which is sensitive and confidential. The integrity of Pueblo Cooperative Care Center is based on the data produced, which validates the importance of the Data Entry and Reporting volunteer position. All information inputted by this position will be used by other people for statistical reference, reporting and organizational management needs. Community service is work done by an individual or a group of people that will bring some form of benefit to others. It is most often done near where you live so your own community reaps the benefits of your work. You do not get paid to perform community service because you volunteer your time. Community service can help many different groups of people: children, homeless, low-income, senior citizens, people with disabilities, even animals and the environment. Community service is often organized through a place of worship, school, nonprofit organization; or you can create your own community service project just to make a difference in your community.
Many people do community service because they enjoy helping others. Sometimes students are required to do community service to meet school requirements, and others are ordered by a judge to complete a certain number of community service hours.
SER Jobs for Progress National (Service, Employment, Redevelopment) works closely with Pueblo Cooperative Care Center for the employment of senior citizens from our community. SER Jobs for Progress National is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and operates the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) which focuses on the training and employment needs of the mature worker. In its fourteenth year of operation, services are provided in California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin. Participants in the Senior Community Service Employment Program come from all walks of life, have diverse work experiences and possess various levels of education. SER Jobs for Progress National partners with local nonprofit organizations like Pueblo Cooperative Care Center (host agencies) to provide participants with training opportunities to update their skills. The program has been successful in placing individuals in full and part-time jobs which benefit them economically and socially. The Senior Community Service Employment Program is authorized by the Older Americans Act, the program provides subsidized, service-based training for low-income persons 55 or older who are unemployed and have poor employment prospects.
